It’s the only major tool whose written terms promise the result will look like you or you get your money back: “Our Realism Guarantee promises that your headshots will look like you. Most roundups rank these tools on polish. We ranked them on one thing: does the headshot still look like you? For an agent, the photo on your sign, your Zillow profile and your email is a promise that the person who shows up at the listing appointment is the person in the picture. Realtor.com’s own help page says the photo is there for “allowing potential clients to connect a face to your name before they even reach out” (Realtor.com). If the face is wrong, that connection breaks at the front door.
We did three things on 24–25 September 2026. We ran one fictional agent’s photo through five AI models and measured how much each one changed her face (try it above). We read every major tool’s refund terms for what happens when the result doesn’t look like you. And we checked every AI headshot tool we could find, 176 in all. 156 are live, and every one is in the directory at the end, including 6 built specifically for agents.

Our test: does it still look like her?
We generated one fictional real estate agent: a woman of about 50 in a casual kitchen photo, made with FLUX 1.1 Pro. No real person’s face was used. Then we sent that photo to five image-editing models with the identical prompt: “Turn this photo into a professional real estate agent headshot… Keep the person’s face, features, age and skin exactly as they are.” We scored each result against the original with ArcFace face recognition (insightface, buffalo_l), and used insightface’s age estimate for the age column.

Two of five models failed an instruction that said, in plain words, to keep the face. Qwen’s result scored lower than a completely different woman. FLUX Kontext aged her by about 22 years. The three that kept her were Seedream 4.5, OpenAI’s model (the one inside ChatGPT) and Google’s Nano Banana (the one inside Gemini).
Two things we learned about the measurement itself:
- The usual “same person” threshold is too lenient for AI faces. insightface’s default is 0.40, and our unrelated control woman scored 0.598. The fairer bar is “closer than a stranger.”
- Face recognition barely notices retouching. When we added “flawless skin” to the prompt, Seedream erased her forehead lines and crow’s feet, but her score only fell from 0.951 to 0.922. So you still have to look: a headshot can be recognisably you and still ten years too young.
This test has limits: one synthetic subject, one run per model and default settings. The method is under How we tested below.
Can a real estate agent use an AI headshot?
Yes. No MLS, portal, state regulator or NAR rule we could find bans AI headshots, and none requires disclosing one. What applies is the rule that already covers everything an agent publishes: it can’t be misleading.
This is worth being precise about, because AI answers get it wrong. Ask ChatGPT whether you can use an AI headshot on your MLS profile and it cites MLS pages from CRMLS and Canopy MLS. Both are about listing photos of property, not agent headshots. CRMLS’s rule says “The photos must accurately represent the property.” Neither mentions the agent’s own photo. California’s AB 723 disclosure law is about property advertising too.
What actually reaches your headshot:
- NAR Code of Ethics, Article 12: REALTORS® must “present a true picture in their advertising, marketing, and other representations,” and Standard of Practice 12-10 bars “misleading images” in internet content (NAR). NAR has never ruled on a headshot. But a photo that makes you look like someone else is the plainest example of a misleading image of you.
- California DRE, March 2026 advisory: advertising must be “truthful, accurate, and not misleading, regardless of whether it is generated by a human alone or… with the assistance of AI” (DRE).
- State advertising rules bar ads that are “inaccurate in any material fact or representation” in Texas (22 TAC §535.155), or “fraudulent, false, deceptive or misleading” in Florida (61J2-10.025).
- Zillow has one profile-photo rule: no contact details or promotion “in your profile photo” (Zillow Listings Quality Policy). It says nothing about AI.
One thing you can’t do: in New York, the photo on your license comes from the DMV (NY DOS), not from you.
Be wary of any tool that tells you portals “allow” AI headshots. Aragon’s FAQ says “Zillow, MLS, and Realtor.com currently allow AI-generated headshots.” None of those platforms says so. They just don’t prohibit it.
Agents already notice the problem. A thread on r/realtors titled “AI agent photos are getting bizarre” opens: “Imagine your clients reaction when they meet you in person and you look nothing like your photo” (r/realtors). One reply: “I had to ask her her name to be sure that was the agent I was meeting” (r/realtors). And the line we’d put on the wall: “head shots should be a reflection not a remembrance” (r/realtors).
Read the refund terms before you pay
Every paid generator hands you dozens of shots, and some of them won’t look like you. What matters is what happens when none of them do. Almost every “money-back” promise ends the moment you download a single image.

5. ChatGPT: the free route, if you have one good photo
“ChatGPT Images is available on all tiers,” including free. In our test, OpenAI’s image model kept the face almost exactly (0.947). OpenAI’s own advice for photos of real people: “use a reference photo for accuracy.” Use a well-lit, recent photo, and include the “keep my face, features, age and skin exactly as they are” line from our prompt. By OpenAI’s terms, you own the output.
6. Secta AI: most variety
$49 for 200+ headshots (listed from $99). It needs at least 20 selfies, which is more work but gives the model more of your face to learn from. “No questions asked. 30-day money back guarantee.”
7. StudioShot: human retouching included
$29.25 for 40, $36.86 for 80, or $43.88 for 120, with 2–6 free human retouches and “a free retouch or a full refund. No fine print.” Teams are $40 per person. We couldn’t find linked terms or a privacy page, so read them before uploading your face.
8. Google Gemini (Nano Banana): free, but watermarked
Free to use, and it kept the face in our test (0.900). But Gemini adds a visible watermark to images it generates, and free downloads are 1K resolution. It’s fine for drafting a look, not for your final headshot.
9. BetterPic: high resolution, strict refund

A subscription ($19–$199/month) that suits an agent who wants a steady stream of photos, not one headshot. Its pricing page rates its own plans from “Low likeness” (Starter) to “Ultra-high” (Ultra). Starter is “only for personal use,” so an agent needs Pro ($49/month) or higher.
12. Try It On AI

From $17 for 200+ headshots. Its site contradicts itself on how many photos it needs (1 or 10+), and “We do not offer refunds once you made a payment.”
Also widely used: Canva’s AI headshot generator is a third-party app inside Canva (ProfilePhoto, by Imagineers Studio). It gives two free credits, then you wait 24 hours. Adobe Firefly has free daily generations from one photo. Fotor is $26.99 for 20 and resets credits if a headshot “doesn’t capture your likeness.” Remini licenses its output “for your personal and non-commercial purposes,” which is a problem for marketing use.
Built for real estate agents
Six live services are aimed at agents specifically, rather than being general tools with a realtor landing page:

We checked the big real estate platforms for a built-in headshot generator and found none in Follow Up Boss, Lofty, kvCORE/BoldTrail, eXp’s brand toolkit or United Real Estate’s BullseyeAI. Showable, which ChatGPT cites for realtor headshots, is an open-house sign-in app, not a headshot tool.

Every row was checked on the tool’s own site on 25 September 2026. We list tools, we don’t endorse them. “Per headshot” is the entry pack price divided by the headshots it includes, shown for one-time packs only. Refund terms are quoted from each vendor’s own pages, including the ones that say “no refunds”, and trimmed where marked “…”. Read the full policy before you pay.
We left out 12 products that turned out not to be headshot generators, including video-avatar tools, a job-interview assistant and affiliate sites. We also left out 8 that were offline or not yet launched, including HeadshotUp, which Gemini still cites.
What we’d do
- Start free. Take one well-lit, recent photo. Run it through ChatGPT, then HeadshotPro’s free headshot and AgentHeadshots’ free preview.
- Hold each result next to a mirror. Same age, same face shape, same eyes? If you’d have to explain it at a listing appointment, don’t use it.
- If you pay, pay where the refund covers likeness: HeadshotPro or Aragon, and don’t download until you’ve checked the preview gallery. For a whole brokerage, AgentHeadshots at $29 per agent.
- Replace it when you change: new hair, glasses, ten pounds, five years. A reflection, not a remembrance.
How we tested
- Likeness test: one fictional subject generated with FLUX 1.1 Pro; five edit models on Replicate (Seedream 4.5, gpt-image-2, Nano Banana, FLUX.1 Kontext Pro, Qwen Image Edit); the identical prompt; one run each at default settings. Scored with insightface 2.0 buffalo_l (ArcFace) cosine similarity. A different fictional woman is the control. Total cost $0.40.
- Tools: prices, refund terms and data retention read on each vendor’s own pages on 25 September 2026. Where a price is hidden behind a login, we say so rather than estimate.
- Directory: 176 candidates (the 14 largest plus 162 more found through Google results, AI-answer citations and 34 roundup pages), each one checked on its own site. 156 are live AI headshot generators and all are listed.
- Rules: read at the source: NAR’s Code of Ethics, MLS help centres (CRMLS, Canopy, Bright), the California DRE, Texas and Florida advertising rules, and the Zillow and Realtor.com help pages.

What is the best AI headshot generator for real estate agents? HeadshotPro, at $29 for 30 headshots. It’s the only major generator whose written terms promise the headshots will look like you or you get your money back, and it offers one free headshot first. Aragon ($35 for 40) also has a written likeness refund. RealtorHeadshot.com ($29 for 100+) is the cheapest tool built for agents.
Can real estate agents use AI headshots? Yes. No MLS, portal, state regulator or NAR rule we found bans AI headshots or requires disclosing one. The limit is the general advertising standard: NAR’s Article 12 requires “a true picture,” and Standard of Practice 12-10 bars “misleading images,” so the headshot has to look like you.
Do MLS rules on AI photos apply to my headshot? No. The MLS rules on AI and digitally altered images (CRMLS, Canopy MLS, Bright) are about listing photos of property. California’s AB 723 disclosure law also covers property advertising. None of them addresses the agent’s own photo.
Can ChatGPT make a professional headshot? Yes, on every ChatGPT plan including free. In our test, OpenAI’s image model kept a subject’s face almost exactly (face similarity 0.947). Upload a recent, well-lit photo, and tell it to keep your face, features, age and skin exactly as they are.
Is there a free AI headshot generator? Yes. ChatGPT and Gemini are free but general-purpose, and Gemini adds a visible watermark. HeadshotPro gives one free HD headshot with no sign-up. AgentHeadshots shows two free previews. Adobe Firefly has free daily generations. Elite Agent’s AI headshot tool is free.
Do AI headshots look like you? Not always. In our test, two of five AI models turned a fictional agent into a visibly different person, despite a prompt telling them to keep her face. One aged her from about 48 to about 70. Seedream 4.5, OpenAI’s model and Google’s Nano Banana kept her likeness.
How much do realtor headshots cost? AI headshots for agents cost $29–$59 for a pack of 30–100 from most paid generators, or $0.29–$1.75 per headshot. RealtorHeadshot.com is $29 for 100+, and AgentHeadshots is $29 per agent for brokerages. ChatGPT and Gemini can do it free.
Do I have to disclose that my headshot is AI-generated? No rule we found requires it. The requirement is that it isn’t misleading, which means it has to look like you as you are now.
How often should a real estate agent update their headshot? Whenever you’d look different at a listing appointment: new hair, glasses, a change in weight or a few years of age. There’s no fixed rule. The standard is that clients recognise you when they meet you.
